Πρωτότυπο

And Make Me New composed by Randall Giles. For SATB choir, organ. Cathedral. Parish. Choral, General. Medium Difficult. Choral octavo. Published by Paraclete Press. PL.9644. Randall Giles has provided a challenging, yet moving setting of this John Donne text of repentance and hope. The choral parts move from a forceful unison to an elegant polyphony with a special emphasis on the clarity of the word-setting. The organ part discreetly supports the voices while contributing its own voice in the florid interludes. The writing in the middle vocal range contributes to the consolation and hope of the words. This piece provides a satisfying challenge for sensitive interpretation and expression of the contemplative text. John Donne's Holy Sonnet "Batter my heart, three person'd God" has so successfully penetrated and internalised the text that it gives new life to it and brings deeper meaning. I am particularly taken by the contrast between the solo reed figurations and the expansive choral writing. the reed recitatives dart and stutter like an anguished soul, while the choir sings of an even more intense passion. - AAM Journal.
