"Steady Beats the Heart" was written to words by the composer's friend, Mandy Anson. The text describes a small piece of woodland in England where ancient trees continue to flourish despite the urban development that has sprung up around them. The piece, for choir and jazz piano, was first performed by the Belvedere Singers and is dedicated to Helen Attfield.
